Description
HONet (Hybrid Overlay Network) [1] is a locality-aware two-level structure to provide flexible and scalable routing. In this project, we are aiming to implement HONet (will introduce some of our other findings in locality-aware P2P area) and deploy it on real Internet. With large scale real world evaluation, we can see the performance of HONet and compare its performance with other related DHTs. Optionally, we can also evaluate the performance of this implemented system by using some typical P2P application such as application layer multicast.
There are several existing single level DHT overlay implementation. Our system can be based on a certain existing DHT system, such as FreePastry (Rice/MPI-SWS), Bamboo DHT (Berkeley) and Chimera/Tapestry (UCSB).
We need to deploy and evaluate our system on PlanetLab test-bed, which is a planet-scale test-bed with almost 1000 computers all over the world. It's a good platform to improve an architecture from protocol design stage to deployment stage.
